We've had a few sentences!
For a few weeks now Sally has become a master of imperative, "Get it!" and "Read it!" being among her favourite commands. She has also discovered the word 'help', which seems to mean anything from 'give me a hand with this, will you?' to 'do it for me now!'
However, tucked in there have been a couple of gems like when she pointed at the TV and said "turn it off!" She has also started using "there he is!" which I think grew out of Panda in Maisy's Bedtime and his habit of hiding behind the curtains... Only Sally says it as if it's all one word, so she greets Daddy in the morning with "THAREEIZ!"
Although I am quite sure it is too early to tell, she appears to have a very visual memory. It would be interesting to know if all toddlers think like that or whether they have different learning styles from the start. Anyway on Friday we were looking at her Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever and discussing all the things that Kenny Bear has for breakfast. He is clearly a very hungry bear as he eats half a page of different things! I named them and after a few goes by the end of the afternoon she'd got most of them. Then when she was in the bath on Friday night I said to her "tell Daddy what we were doing today - what does Kenny Bear have for breakfast?" and she looked up in the air - we are convinced she was picturing the page, hence the visual memory - and reeled them off: "bacon, seeweeall (cereal), fwooot jooooss, muffins, c(w)eam, jam, toast, pancakes, butter". I really didn't realise that toddlers could remember so much; no wonder you have to be careful what you say!
Sally has finally got the hang of scribbling a bit better now as well. She managed to draw a 'picture' of two colours (black and yellow) a couple of days ago before she lost interest. Playdough is far more popular - she made a lovely mouse with it, even telling me that's what it was (must post a picture of it) in an early session but at the moment "pattens" are more exciting. I've been pressing "smoov" playdough onto her hands
and making handprint patterns, which she loves.
My favourite moment of the week was with Tiny Owl, however. Sally held him by his wings and said "Wings!" then "fwlap, fwlap!" and flapped them. I said "oh, Tiny Owl is flying, where is he flying to?" and she said "fly high!" and flapped him over her head. A lovely little moment.
